Dr. Kartal received her Ed.D. in Language, Literacy, and Technology from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2002. Before joining the faculty of Instructional Technologies at Boğaziçi University in Spring 2004, she was a graduate research assocate at IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center in New York, where she worked as part of a research group that developed reading software based on speech recognition technology. In her dissertation she focused on the use of this technology by adult learners with lower reading levels. She has also taught at the University of Chicago and Columbia University as well as F.E.G.S, a large non-profit organization based in New York.
