Diler Öner worked as a mathematics teacher before she went to the United States as a Turkish government-funded student to study educational technology. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Curriculum and Instruction where she studied the ways in which different types of geometry curricula, including dynamic geometry software-based curriculum materials, offer opportunities to students to develop mathematical reasoning and proof skills. She joined the department of Computer Education and Educational Technology in the fall of 2006.
